Frequently Asked Questions

  • A conflict-free appraisal means your appraiser has absolutely no financial interest in the outcome of your valuation. Unlike dealers who appraise and then offer to buy, Silver Peak Coin Appraisal strictly appraises — we never purchase, sell, or broker coins under any circumstances. That independence means the number we give you is the real number.

  • Most people significantly underestimate or overestimate what their collection is worth. A professional appraisal gives you documented, market-backed evidence of value — essential for estate settlement, insurance coverage, legal proceedings, or simply making informed decisions about pieces you've held for years.

  • “My appraisal work focuses on U.S. coins, with particular expertise in key dates and error/variety coins. however I also have knowledge in European and ancient Greco Roman Coinage. I also appraise paper currency—both U.S. and foreign—as well as collectible poker chips. If you’re unsure whether your item falls within my scope, just reach out.”

  • No — and please don't clean them. Cleaning coins incorrectly can significantly damage their value. Bring them exactly as they are and let us handle the assessment. Organization helps speed things up but is never required.

  • A dealer's free appraisal isn't actually free — it's a buying opportunity dressed up as a service. Their offer reflects what they can profit on resale, not what your collection is genuinely worth. Our fee covers an independent, professionally documented valuation with no agenda attached. Clients routinely discover their collections are worth significantly more than a dealer suggested. That difference more than covers our appraisal fee.

  • We come to you or you come to us — whatever works best for your situation. Appraisals are conducted at your home, your office, or our location depending on your preference and the size of your collection.

  • Absolutely — inherited collections are one of our most common appraisal requests. Whether you're settling an estate, dividing assets among family members, or simply trying to understand what you've received, we provide the clear, documented valuation you need to move forward confidently.

  • No — not ever. Purchasing coins falls completely outside our scope of services and would compromise the independence that makes our appraisals trustworthy. If you decide to sell following your appraisal we're happy to point you toward reputable resources, but we will never be the buyer.

  • Our basic appraisal’s start at $75.00 for you first 100 Pieces!
